Professional Caregiving:

Risks & Rewards of

Working with Traumatized People

This workshop is for therapists, chaplains, nurses, physicians, social workers, school counselors, teachers, ministers, first responders, EAP staff and other professional caregivers who regularly work with highly-distressed or traumatized persons. Its purpose is to promote caregiver-wellness by focusing on the basics in assessment, prevention, and recovery from caregiver stress or compassion fatigue. It also fulfills criteria for certification as Compassion Fatigue Educator with the Green Cross Academy of Traumatology.

Course Goals:

  • Prepare participants to identify, prevent and/or recover from caregiver stress and compassion fatigue

  • Affirm and expand competencies in supporting other professional care-givers who work with the traumatized

  • Facilitate well-being of professional caregivers through education, networking, support and self-care measures

  • Fulfill criteria for certification as Compassion Fatigue Educator with the Green Cross Academy of Traumatology

  • Prepare participants through training for future deployment opportunities in post-disaster locations

Date: Friday, March 26, 2010

Schedule: Registration and coffee: 8:15 a.m. Seminar: 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Lunch on your own)

Cost:  $150. Workshop fee is discounted to $99 (Student rate: $85) if registration is received on or before March 12th. Registration fee includes handouts and a self-test for compassion fatigue.

Refund and Cancellation Policy: Registrations cancelled by March 12th are subject to an administrative fee of $25. No refund will be granted after March 12th but participants may apply the fee to a future seminar.

CEUs: 6 contact hours have been approved for the following credentials: LMFT, LBP, and LPC. Request has been made to the EACC for 6 hours of PDH.
